Learn how to develop your signature characters with a specific and comedic point of view through improv and writing exercises from Groundlings Main Company member Michael Churven. Limited slots!

Originally from Australia, Michael Churven came to America as part of the Australian wave in the early ‘00s and is thrilled to be a Main Company member at The Groundlings Theatre.

His television credits include MIKE TYSON MYSTERIES, MODERN FAMILY and YOU CAN DO BETTER. Film credits include WILD NIGHTS WITH EMILY alongside Molly Shannon.

He has appeared on Australian television in the series BUTTERFLY ISLAND and THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SKIPPY.

Theatre credits include the Australian national tour of THE KING AND I and Open Fist Theater’s production of DELEARIOUS.

His short film TROUGHMAN took the Best Humor Award at Dan Savage’s 2019 Hump Film Festival and is currently part of the 14th Annual Hump Fest National Tour.

Workshop details

When: 16 May 2020 (Saturday) – 10am to 1pm
Duration: 3 hours (with breaks)
Prerequisite: Completed and passed Level 1 with LMA (or equivalent)
Link to online session will be sent, via email, two hours prior to the start of class
Maximum 12 participants, minimum of 8

Things to know and prepare

Wear: Comfortable clothing (including pants!)
Space: Find a place where you can stand.
Device: Our online classes are optimised for desktop, laptop or tablet (mobile phones can sometimes have audio issues but if you’ve used yours successfully before, go ahead)
Bring: Pen and paper for in-class writing exercises

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The first few weeks get you out of your comfort zone but once you get into scenes and start creating it’s hard not to get addicted. The experience is full of self-discovery, improving your mindfulness and communication skills. There aren’t many (if any) other times in the week when you spend a full 3 hours laughing out loud. It’s fantastic!

The teachers are very supportive and experienced, the student shows are really fun and not by any means compulsory if people are not feeling ready to perform, and most importantly the community vibe is unmatched. If you’re trying improv out for the first time like I did, you wanna be at LMA.
