This page serves to provide information about LMA’s Access & Inclusion goals and program initiatives.
LMA is committed to creating an environment which is supportive and welcoming to all people and reflects the experiences of the greater community in which we live. We do this through outreach, scholarships, community events, and more, all with a view to ensuring that the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion are upheld in every area of our organization from the classroom to the stage.
We believe that our work should speak to both the community in which we operate and to the world at-large. Our curriculum promotes being truthful and drawing from real life when possible, and we believe classes are more rewarding when students bring a variety of experiences, backgrounds, and worldviews to the work they do in class and on the stage. A diverse student body is a key part of developing rich comedic scenes in improvisation, sketch, and character work.
Improving Access & Inclusion is an ongoing process. During the course of any given year we may make changes to our program to ensure we are doing everything we can to make LMA a more welcoming place for audiences, students, and performers of all backgrounds. To better track our progress LMA collects data throughout the year – asking members of our community to self-identify (always with the option not to participate) as part of one or more of our groups.
